We are pleased to share the publication of the National Measurement Laboratory (NML) Annual Review 2025, reflecting on a year of impact, collaboration and investment in the future of measurement science.

2025 marked the beginning of an exciting chapter for the NML: moving into a new state-of-the-art facility based in Guildford. This new facility strengthens national scientific infrastructure to support future challenges and innovation in chemical and biological metrology.

This Review showcases how NML’s trusted measurement expertise is supporting UK growth and regional expertise, enabling innovation to be translated into real-world impact, from responsible innovation in engineering biology to breaking down barriers to commercial translation , and strengthening public confidence in policy and government decisions, from diagnostic readiness for public health emergencies to tackling the effect of greenhouse gas emissions on the environment

At the heart of all of this work is one simple mission: providing confidence in the chemical and biological measurements used to inform decisions, ensuring they are accurate, reliable and can be trusted. Read the full review to see exactly how we are making this happen.
