Diagnostics
We drive global progress in advancing the accuracy of routine clinical diagnostics including for cancer, infectious diseases, genetic testing and neurodegenerative diseases. Our expertise accelerates the research and translation of future diagnostics such as genomics and point of care testing while pioneering novel strategies for ensuring test confidence.
Infectious diseases
Working in collaboration with UK government agencies, the World Health Organization, and global standards networks, we help ensure that high accuracy tests are available for infectious disease diagnosis, including for antibiotic resistance detection and pandemic response. We develop reference methods and materials to support accurate testing and lead global comparison studies to standardise diagnostics and improve test reproducibility.
Cancer diagnostics
In developing biological measurement infrastructure we are enabling accurate analysis of DNA and biomarkers to support the wider uptake of precision medicine. This aims to underpin the confidence of tests used by physicians to guide the latest cancer therapies. We contribute to the development of standards and reference materials that support the wider availability of cancer diagnostics and treatment monitoring.
Neurodegenerative diseases
Our work helping to improve the comparability of biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases is supporting the provision of earlier and more accurate diagnosis, more effective treatment and improve monitoring of disease progression of neurodegenerative diseases.
Our response to COVID-19
We contributed to the UK’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic, providing high accuracy measurements, informing documentary standards and guidance and supporting healthcare providers and industry. We participated in the WHO SARS-CoV-2 international standard assessment.
